Welcome to StartupWeekend Chicago EDU!

Hello Education Enthusiasts, Developers, Designers and Mentors!

While we saw many of you at the #Educelerate preWeekend preview last night, we are looking forward to meeting the rest of you all today.  We trust you share our excitement in kicking off Chicago Startup Weekend EDU now!

Ahead of such, here are some final details:

  • Doors open at 5:10 PM. The location is National Louis University, Second Florr Atrium, 122 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60603.  You can enter from the doors off Michigan Ave. and come in right at the elevators.  You’ll need to present an ID to access the second floor after hours (i.e. after 10pm on Friday, after 5pm on Saturday, and all day Sunday).

  • If you are a student or educator, bring your School ID, or you will be charged full admission.

  • Dinner will arrive at 6:00 PM and we will kick off things at 6:30 PM SHARP with a welcome address from StartupWeekend EDU’s general manager Mandela Schumacher-Hodge and our guest speaker Jack Larson

  • This weekend we will also be hosting a research group affiliated with the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business.  The team will briefly introduce their project and how you can participate in their research (i.e., brief surveys spread throughout the weekend).

  • Follow us on Twitter @SWChicago and join the conversation at #swChiEDU for updates throughout the night!

As soon as our speakers conclude, the pitching will commence. We will explain how the pitch-fire process works in the opening introduction speech, but here are a few key points:

  • Pitches are just 60 seconds.

  • You may have just one chance to pitch, depending on how many people choose to pitch tonight, so if you have multiple ideas, pitch the best one first.

Tomorrow (Saturday) morning, you’ll have access to a FREE developer bootcamp led by Starter League to help equip you with the technical skills to advance your idea.

  • Fill out the form here to let us know if you’ll be attending: Chicago EDU Bootcamp.
  • Additionally, please download the following software beforehand for a better experience: 1) The Chrome web browser; and 2) Sublime Text 2: www.sublimetext.com/ (the trial version of this software will work just fine).

Last but not least, we want you to be as prepared as possible so please check out the following documents!

One final suggestion, we will set up a number of power strips throughout the space, but if you have one to bring yourself, it will help ensure your team is well energized tonight.

If you have any questions, send us an email at chicagoedu@startupweekend.org and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can!

Happy hacking,
The Chicago SW EDU Organizers
