In addition to taking advantage of the optional, but highly recommended, pitch practice opportunity from 1:30-3:30pm today, be mindful of the judging criteria below:
Business Model Validation
- Can this idea scale and generate revenue: positive market growth or opportunity for this team to capture (disrupt) market share; clear path to monetization? How will this team acquire customers: customer acquisition / rollout strategy; differentiation from competitors? Can this idea make money: has a revenue and production model been defined and is it realistic? Does this present fundamentally profitable unit economics? Is the idea and team ready for execution? Would you invest in this company at this point?
- Institutional validation: Did the team speak with any teachers, administrators, or operators? Educational viability: Does this address a real problem? Is this a better solution than already exists? Does this work within existing funding and regulatory strictures?
User Experience Design (Technical) Execution
- Is this a memorable product: Does it deliver a compelling and captivating user experience? Does it have an institutional (professional) look and feel? Users engagement and needs assessment: How many users were engaged? What feedback was gathered and reflected in the user feature set? How does product reflect user insights?
Product (Technical) Execution
- Have they established a “Minimal Viable Product” for the weekend? Were they able to demo something functional (e.g. in the case of an app, did they build one)? What key insights were gathered over the Weekend to go in this direction? How many product iterations and data collection cycles have they performed throughout the Weekend? Were architecture diagrams and API signatures included? Which services did they integrate with? How much of the product is running on a real server with non-sample data?
